Born at Leeds County, Ontario on 21 November 1851, he came to Winnipeg in 1882 where he founded the contracting firm of Davidson Brothers with his brothers Albert T. Davidson and Frederick H. Davidson, both of whom served as Winnipeg city aldermen. He was married to Sarah McMillan (1852-1905) and they had two children: Norman W. Davidson (1878-?) and Jenny A. Davidson (1886-?). After the death of his first wife, he married again, to Mary Stewart. He died at Winnipeg on 22 March 1920.
