Memorable Manitobans: Sherry Lynn Dangerfield (1954-2026)

Interpretive planner, community activist.

Born at Winnipeg on 12 February 1954, younger of two daughters of Helen Carol Davison (1927-2009) and James Crawford Dangerfield (1924-2005), her childhood was spent in St. Vital. She initially worked as a dental assistant the travelled in Europe for a time before returning to Winnipeg and receiving a BA degree from the University of Winnipeg. She volunteered at Klinic’s Rape Crisis Program and served on the board of the Manitoba Action Committee for Status of Women and its Violence Against Women subcommittee.

She attended the University of Manitoba and received a Masters of Natural Resources Management. She worked as an interpreter at Whiteshell Provincial Park and Birds Hill Provincial Park then began her own business as an interpretive planner. She created interpretive trails, signs, and pamphlets, and she taught interpretation at Red River College and other organizations. She later created exhibits for interpretive centres and small museums. She was instrumental in developing the East Beaches Heritage Wing Museum at Grand Marais. She retired in 2021.

She died at Winnipeg on 29 September 2026.
