Journalist, author.
Born at Brandon on 2 December 1947, he grew up on the family farm near Miniota and attended Miniota School, Brandon College, and the University of Winnipeg, leaving the latter without a degree in 1970.
A career in journalism began in 1970 when he became a copy boy at the Winnipeg Tribune, serving as the paper's features editor at the time of its closure in 1980. He helped to launch the Winnipeg Sun and was its Managing Editor until joining the Winnipeg Free Press in 1985, remaining there until retirement in 2012. There, he served as City Editor and Features Editor, and was author or editor of four books about Manitoba history and culture, including The Millennium in Manitoba: 1,000 Years of Manitoba History (1999) and The Hermetic Code: Unlocking One of Manitoba's Greatest Secrets (2007).
He was married twice, first in 1972 to Darlene Lazenby at Reston, with whom he had two sons. They divorced in 1980. He married Karen Macdonald in 1985 and they had a son and a daughter. He died at Winnipeg on 22 November 2022.
