Memorable Manitobans: Russell Cowans (1884-?)

Stock broker.

Born at Montreal, Quebec on 4 August 1884, son of Robert and Elizabeth Cowans, he was educated at high school then, in 1901, began working as a clerk at Greenshields Limited at Montreal. He came to Winnipeg in 1910 as a partner in the firm of McDougall & Cowans located at 438 Main Street, Winnipeg. In 1910, he married Doris Forsyth Allan (?-?) at Montreal. They lived at 260 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg. He was a member of the Manitoba Club, St. James Club (Montreal), and Presbyterian church.
