Farmer, businessman, municipal official.
Born at Wawanesa on 30 April 1904, he farmed in the Wawanesa area until 1941. He joined the Massey-Harris Implement Company as a salesman for southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan, establishing his own Massey-Harris agency at Virden in 1945 and operating it until his retirement in 1963. Active in amateur baseball, he was a member of the Brandon Greys in the late 1920s and was an active member of the Manitoba Baseball Association for 25 years. He was made an honorary life member in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League in 1970. He served on the Virden School Board (1947-1950) and on the Virden Town Council (1955-1958). He was Mayor of Virden from 1958 to 1961. During his tenure he was responsible for the development of the Virden Recreation Centre, Sherwood Senior Citizens Home, and other community projects. In 1963, he was appointed to the founding board of the Manitoba Centennial Corporation. For his service to the community, he was awarded a Manitoba Golden Boy Award (1965) and the Canadian Centennial Medal (1967). He was a member of the Masons (Lebanon Lodge No. 43) and the Lions Club, a Director of the Virden Agricultural Society and the Virden Health Unit Board. He died at his home in Virden on 26 November 1971.
