Born on a ranch at Loch Monar on 29 August 1889, one of five children of Elizabeth “Lizzie” McLaren (1859-1931) and Lachlan Collie (1858-1929), her family moved to Winnipeg in 1905. She died unmarried at Winnipeg on 19 February 1951 and was buried with her family in the Elmwood Cemetery.
