Memorable Manitobans: Barry John Chipka (c1943-2006)Firefighter, golfer. He grew up in the Elmwood/East Kildonan area and joined the St. James Fire Department in 1967, retiring in 2000 as a Captain with Winnipeg Fire Department. He was a competitive golfer who practiced at the Rossmere Country Club and later the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. He was Golf Manitoba’s amateur champion in 1968, a member of the Willingdon Cup teams, and a two-time low amateur in the Manitoba Open. He died at WInnipeg on 22 April 2006.
