Memorable Manitobans: John Hubert Cattley (1873-?)Businessman. Born at St. Petersburg, Russia in 1873, he was educated in private schools of England.. He worked as a tea planter in Ceylon from 1893 to 1899 then returned to Russia where he was involved in the steamship business. In 1903 he came to Winnipeg and, three years later, became employed by the Winnipeg Oil Company, later becoming secretary of the firm for two years. In 1910 he founded the Cattley Loans & Finance Company. On 24 April 1909, he married Flora Elizabeth Donkin at Winnipeg. They had a son, Thomas Cattley.
