Memorable Manitobans: Robert Maxwell Carr (1947-2023)

Lawyer, judge.

Born at Winnipeg in 1947, one of three sons of David Carr (c1914-1973) and Esther Golden (1917-2013), brother of James Gordon Carr, he received law degrees from the University of Manitoba and Harvard University. He practiced with the law firm of Taylor McCaffrey before serving as a judge in the Court of King's Bench (1983-2006). He established the University Legal Aid Clinic while in law school, and assisted in the establishment of a unified family court in Manitoba and a national communication network for judges. He and wife Shawn Greenberg had two children. He died at Winnipeg on 10 July 2023.
