Memorable Manitobans: James Herbert Bulmer (1867-1942)

Real estate agent.

Born in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia on 11 August 1867, son of George and Fannie Bulmer, he was educated at Horton Academy (Nova Scotia). He commenced a general store business in New Brunswick, in 1880. He came to Winnipeg in 1902. He was a member of the Winnipeg Board of Trade, Vice-President of the Maritime Investment Company, Secretary-Treasurer of the Winnipeg Development Company, and a director of the Central Valley Land Company. In 1911, he was employed with the firm of Bulmer, Downie, Reid and Curie with offices in the McArthur Building.

In 1897, he married Anna Fillmore (1867-1964) of Westmoreland Point, New Brunswick and they had two daughters: Marion Bulmer and Evelyn Bulmer. The family lived at 543 Camden Place, Winnipeg. He was a member of the Canadian Club, AF & AM, and Liberal party. His recreation was tennis.

He died in 1942 and was buried in the Cypress View Mausoleum at San Diego, California.
