Athlete.
Born in Winnipeg in 1894, he was educated at Isbister School and Kelvin High School. He was active in a number of sports, particularly hockey, track and field, soccer, and swimming. He began playing American football before the First World War. He served in the Royal Winnipeg Flying Corps from 1917 until the end of the war. After the war, he played on three hockey teams that were Allan Cup finalists, played football for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and played baseball for the Dominion Express team. In 1926 he became a charter member of the Chicago Black Hawks, but his contract was sold to the Seattle Eskimos, for whom he played from 1928 to 1930. He retired in 1930 and became a junior hockey coach during the 1930s. He was elected Manitoba’s Athlete of the Century in 1970. He is a member of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
