Memorable Manitobans: Peter Arnold Brown (1927-1994)

Farmer, businessman, MLA (1973-1977), MLA (1977-1981), MLA (1982-1986), MLA (1986-1988).

Born on 27 April 1927, son of Isaac J. Brown (1887-1995) and Kathryn Hamm (?-?), he served on the Winkler town council before being elected to the Manitoba Legislature at the 1973 general election, representing the Rhineland constituency. He was re-elected in 1977, 1981, and 1986 but did not seek re-election in 1988. In 1977, he received the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal. On 31 July 1960, he married Katharina H. “Katie” Janzen (1928-2017, remarried to Henry Unger in 2002) at Winkler and, in February 1971, they gained guardianship of two children following their parents’ (his sister and brother-in-law) deaths. He died at Winkler on 5 March 1994 and was buried in the Winkler Cemetery.
