Memorable Manitobans: Anthonie “Tony” Brouwer (c1923-2004)Caretaker. He was appointed the first porter at University College of the University of Manitoba when it opened in 1963. When he retired in 1983, he was inducted into the Manitoba Order of the Buffalo Hunt in recognition of his twenty years of service. He also received the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal (1977). He died at Selkirk on 12 May 2004.
