Memorable Manitobans: Florence Mary Richtik Brooks (1930-1999)
Educator. Born on the family farm in the RM of Thompson on 12 December 1930, daughter of Bessie Irene Morton (1903-1989) and John Richtik (1895-1969), sister of James M. Richtik, she attended Lloyd George School and completed her secondary education at Morden School. After attending Normal School, she began a teaching career that spanned over 30 years. She was Principal of Pine Creek School (1953-1955) and Mountainside School (1956-1958) and finished teaching in Morden where she worked the last 15 years prior to retirement in June 1987. On 28 July 1952, she married John Maurice Brooks (1926-2012) and they had one son. She died at her residence in the RM of Stanley on 25 May 1999 and was buried at Chapel Cemetery in Morden.
