Memorable Manitobans: Mary T. Brasko (1935-2004)

Community activist.

Born at St. Boniface on 27 May 1935, she attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School, St. Mary’s Academy, and Tec Voc High School. Along with her husband Jerry, she founded TATRA Ornamental Iron Works Limited and the TATRA FC Soccer Club. She was active in the Slovak community as a lifetime member of the Slovak World Congress, worked with the Slovakia/Bratislava Pavilion of Folklorama, writing the “From Our Slovak Kitchen” cookbook for the Visitation of Our Lady Slovak Church. She died at Winnipeg on 26 February 2004 and was interred in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
