Interior designer, community activist.
Born at Winnipeg on 25 January 1945, son of Cecil Blankstein and Claire Diamond, he received a degree in Interior Design from the University of Manitoba and practiced in Winnipeg and Toronto for more than 45 years. He served on the boards of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada, Winnipeg Jewish Theatre, and Claribel and Saul Simkin Centre; was Treasurer of the Norwood Community Centre; and Secretary of the St. Boniface Conservative EDA. He was a founding member and President of the Manitoba Chapter of the International Facility Management Association. He was a founding member of Anakhnu, Rady Jewish Community Centre’s group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people. He and his husband Ken Ure were the first Jewish gay couple to be married at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 14 November 2016 and was buried in the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery.
