Memorable Manitobans: R. James Black (1868-?)Farmer. Born in Wellington County, Ontario on 5 August 1868, son of D. J. Black (?-1906) and Margaret McKrag (1846-1904), his father came to Brandon, Manitoba in 1879 and developed a farm. James helped until he was 22 when started farming on his own account. On 9 June 1896 he married Hannah Leybourn. They had four sons: David J. Black, James L. Black, Thomas L. Black, and Herbert H. Black. He was a member of the IOOF. Sources:The Story of Manitoba by F.
