Memorable Manitobans: William Robertson Beveridge (1873-1949)
Educator, school inspector. Born near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on 9 June 1873, he taught school there for some years before coming to Manitoba where he was a teacher at Dominion City School (1904-1906), Emerson School (1906-1907), and Deloraine School (1907-1916). In 1916, he was appointed a School Inspector based at Virden, where he stayed until retirement in 1944. In 1939, he was made a Life Member of the Manitoba Educational Association. He was married with a son, and was a member of the Masons (Lebanon Lodge) and Virden Golf Club. He moved to Victoria, British Columbia in 1944, where he died on 27 March 1949 and was buried at Saanich, BC.
