Educator.
Born at Tantallon, Saskatchewan on 22 September 1946, son of railwayman Herbert T. Barsby (1910-1979) and Katherine “Kay” Kletchko (1915-1989), his childhood was spent at Dominion City where he attended Dominion City School (1955-1963). After completing a BSc (Honours) degree at the University of Manitoba in 1967, he began a lifelong teaching career. He later completed MSc (1970) and BEd degrees.
He taught at Snow Lake School (1967-1969), Gordon Bell High School (1970-1975), and St. John's-Ravenscourt School (1975-2004) until retirement in 2004. He work was recognized with a Prime Minister's Award and awards from the Descartes Foundation, University Manitoba, and Mathematics Association of America. His writing was published in The Globe and Mail and he won three writing contests sponsored by the Winnipeg Free Press. He wrote a memoir entitled Fifty Years in the Classroom and What I Learned There (2022).
He died unmarried at the St. Boniface Hospital on 17 November 2023.
