Memorable Manitobans: Irwin Roy Barker (1952-2010)

Comedian.

Born at Winnipeg on 13 June 1952, he held a Masters degree in Sociology and was lectured at the University of Manitoba and Alberta prior to his comedy career. Nicknamed “The Professor” and known for his clean and clever comedy, he worked for The Rick Mercer Report and This Hour Has 22 Minutes. He was a multiple Gemini and Writers’ Guild Award nominee. Diagnosed with cancer in 2007, his first year of treatment was the subject of an award-winning nationally televised documentary, That’s My Time. He died at Toronto, Ontario on 21 June 2010.
