Restauranteur, municipal official.
Born at Fort Vermilion, Alberta on 6 June 1929, daughter of Fred and Clara Jones, she lived at Peace River and Portage la Prairie before coming to Winnipeg. A large portion of her working life was spent in the food service industry. Starting as a cook, she worked up to establishing and operating such restaurants as Lilac Snack Bar in Fort Rouge, Alice's Restaurant in Elmwood, Alice's Restaurant Catering and The White House Restaurant. She also managed the Portage Village Inn Restaurant and the Scandinavian Centre. She worked in food services at the Health Sciences Centre and Grace Hospital. She was a Winnipeg city councillor (1980-1983) and a member of the Board for the Seven Oaks General Hospital (1981-1990). She and husband John Alexander “Bill” Balsillie (1915-1986) had two daughters and a son, Arthur James Balsillie (1968-2008). She died at the Grace Hospital on 24 October 2011 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
