Musician, theatre operator.
Born in Romania around 1899, he immigrated to Canada in 1924. An accomplished conductor and violinist, he first settled at Calgary, Alberta. He soon moved to Manitoba where he lived at Minnedosa, then Neepawa, and finally Winnipeg. He operated movie theatres in Neepawa, Minnedosa, and Carman and also the Deluxe Theatre, Paris Theatre, Vogue Theatre, State Theatre, and Valour Theatre in Winnipeg. At the time of his death, he was still operating the Deluxe and Carman theatres. On 15 August 1924, he married pianist Cecilia Zwet at Winnipeg and they had three children: Aubrey Asper, Israel Harold “Izzy” Asper, and Hettie Asper (wife of ? Lofchy). He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 17 March 1961 and was buried in the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery.
