Memorable Manitobans: Agnes Isabelle Arnold (1908-1996)

Educator.

Born at Winnipeg on 27 March 1908, the daughter of Samuel Arnold and Harriett Elizabeth Verner, she was a lifelong resident of West Kildonan where she taught for many years, and was Principal of Seven Oaks School (1943-1950), Governor Semple School (1950-1955), Edmund Partridge Junior High School (1955-1959) and Acting-Principal of Victory School (1965). She was also Supervisor of Elementary Education (1960-1968), and Special Education Coordinator for the Seven Oaks School Division. She was the first female elder of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church and President of the Teachers Division of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (1943). She died at Winnipeg, unmarried, on 23 February 1996.
