Educator, civil servant, community activist.
Born at Smarzow, Poland in 1892, he came to Canada in 1906 and settled at Winnipeg. He worked for Associated Charities (1910-1912) and was also a hospital investigator. In 1913, he taught at Sapton School and, in 1914, received a diploma as a manual training teacher. He taught at Rus School (1915-1916) then returned to Winnipeg to manage the Leland Theatre for two years and was a substitute teacher of manual training for the Winnipeg School Division (1928-1930). He was Chief Registrar for the Winnipeg Public Welfare Department for 27 years, retiring in 1957.
He and wife Mary H. Andree (1896-1978) had three children: Paul Frederick Andree (?-2002, wife of Mary Sophie Chudzik), Leonard Andree, and Valentine Andree (?-1952, wife of A. Boulet). He managed the Sokol Choir (1916-1954) and, in 1928, organized and managed a group of dancers in the Sokol Association. He conducted the choir at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church (four years) and Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church (25 years). He was President of the First Convention Federation of Polish Societies in Canada (now the Polish Canadian Congress). He served as Secretary and President of the Polish Press Limited. He served as Secretary and President of the Polish Gymnastic Association.
He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 28 December 1965.
