Memorable Manitobans: Ernestine Marguerite Maude Ablett (1904-1999)

Educator.

Born in the RM of Wallace on 14 May 1904, one of five daughters of William Henry Ablett (1868-1922) and Beatrice Freeman (1874-1953), she taught at Smalley School (1930-1933) and Victor School (1936-1945) while hired men and her cousin Isaac Clarkson worked her farm near Elkhorn. She permitted Clarkson to store his collection of restored antique automobiles on the farm and, after his death, she arranged for them to be donated to the municipality on the condition that they remain in Elkhorn. She died on 25 September 1999 and was buried in the Elkhorn Cemetery.
