Memorable Manitobans: Ralph Louis “Ray” Zengel (1894-1977)War hero. Born in Faribault, Minnesota, he moved with his widowed mother to Saskatchewan at an early age. He was working on a farm at Virden when he enlisted in the 45th Battalion. In 1917 he won a Victoria Cross for bravery at Warvillers. After the war he moved to Alberta and later British Columbia.
