Memorable Manitobans: George Young (1865-?)Educator, lawyer. Born in Ontario on 23 October 1865, he graduated with honours from the University of Toronto then began teaching at Brandon Collegiate in 1895. He served as the Principal of Portage Collegiate (1902-1909), during which time he supervised the construction of a new building and organized the school’s first reunion. In 1907, the school was judged the best in the province by provincial inspector. From 1909 to 1911, he lectured in Classics and History at Manitoba College then he moved to Alberta to train as a lawyer. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1915 and partnered with Athelstan Bisset at Edmonton in 1918. He retired in 1939. Sources:1901 Canada census, Automated Genealogy.
