John Williams

Fire insurance.
Born at Brockville, Ontario on 16 April 1853, he came to Winnipeg in 1882 and established the Williams-Raney Insurance Agency, the largest in western Canada specializing in fire insurance. He retired around 1917 but carried on a private brokerage business for owners of blocks and large private homes.
He was married twice, first to Catherine “Kate” Nicol (1859-1914) with whom he had two sons, Charles Edward Williams (1886-?) and John M. Williams (1897-?). His second wife was Clara Williams. He was a member of the Odd Fellows (Manitoba Lodge No. 1), Canadian Order of Foresters (Court Osborne), and Ancient Order of United Workmen.
He died at the Misericordia Hospital on 27 November 1932 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
