Memorable Manitobans: William H. Wheatland (1867-?)

Farmer, municipal official.

Born in Grey County, Ontario on 26 December 1867, son of Cornelius Wheatland and Sarah Jane Hoy, he came to Manitoba with his parents in 1880 and farmed in the Rural Municipality of Macdonald near Sanford. He served as a councillor for Macdonald, in which capacity he attended the 1905 founding meeting, in Brandon, of the Union of Manitoba Municipalities. He was reeve of the Municipality in 1906. He was married to Sarah Edith Skelton. They had three children: Cornelius Hordle Wheatland (b 1898), Lillian Rutherford Wheatland (b 1901), and Sarah Eva Ruby Wheatland (b 1903).
