Cleric.
Born at Weidercherlitz, Russia in 1850, he immigrated to Manitoba in 1879 with his parents and settled at Haskett. He taught in the village school of Hoffnungsfeld from 1881 to 1887 and began farming on the outskirts of Winkler in 1888, erecting the first building in Winkler in 1892. He was baptized in 1891 and became an avid church-goer. He became leader of the Mennonite Brethren congregation of Winkler in 1906, remaining in that capacity until his retirement in 1931. In 1881, he married Sara [Sarah] Loewen (1860-1930) of Osterwick. After her death, he married his second wife, Mrs. David Dyck, in 1933. He had ten children: Jacob Bernard Warkentin, Isaak J. Warkentin, John Warkentin, Bernhard W. "Bernard" Warkentin, Peter Warkentin, Cornelius Warkentin, ? Warkentin (wife of H. S. Voth), Helen Warkentin, Sarah Warkentin (wife of ? Voth), and Tienne Warkentin. He died at Winkler on 18 May 1848 and was buried in the Winkler Cemetery.
