Memorable Manitobans: Fernand Viau (1909-2000)Soldier, MP (1945-1949), MP (1949-1953), MP (1953-1957). Born at Montreal, Quebec on 24 May 1909, son of Damase-Esdras Viau and Clara-Elisabeth Thauvette, he attended St. Boniface College and the University of Manitoba. On 8 May 1936, he married Anna Mae Larusson. He became an officer in the Canadian Army and was Captain and Director of Services in the Military District No. 10. He was elected to the House of Commons for St. Boniface in 1945, re-elected in 1949 and 1953, defeated in 1957. He died on 3 June 2000.
