Memorable Manitobans: Gilbert Joseph Augustus “Gil” Van Humbeck (1933-2025)

Educator.

Born on a farm near Laurier on 26 August 1933, one of ten children of Frederic Amand “Fred” Van Humbeck and Elise Eugenie Robert, his career in education involved teaching at Carman Collegiate (1961-1962) and Camp Shilo Schools (1966-1967) and serving as the Principal of Ste. Rose du Lac School (1959-1961), St. Norbert School (?-1979), and Elton Collegiate (c1981). He died at the Health Sciences Centre on 8 March 2025.
