Born at Hamilton, Ontario on 5 April 1947, he was a sales representative for the Maple Leaf Milling Company at London, Ontario before relocating to Winnipeg in 1987.

In May 1990, he leveraged a lifelong interest in railways when he launched, and was editor and publisher of, Canadian Railway Modeller, a magazine for model railway enthusiasts. At its peak, the magazine had over 3,800 subscribers around the world. The last issue was published in 2017. Between 2008 and 2013, he also published 12 issues of a magazine entitled Railfan Canada.

His company, North Kildonan Publications, also sold railway-themed cards, art prints, lapel pins, and more. He served as President (1995-1996, 2005-2007) and Program Director (2009-2016) of the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club. He also founded the city's annual train show, now called Mega Trains. He assisted the Manitoba Historical Society by photographing buildings around the province for its Historic Sites of Manitoba inventory.

He died at the Riverview Health Centre on 6 February 2025, survived by his wife and two children.
