Memorable Manitobans: William Trimble (1840-1916)

Pioneer.

Born in Durham County, Upper Canada on 26 September 1840. He married Jane Carruthers at Gorrie, Canada West, in 1866. They had four sons. In 1868 he migrated to Missouri, and in 1872 he and his family came to homestead at Portage la Prairie. His was the first house from Portage on the old Saskatchewan Trail. He was instrumental in organizing the West Prospect Methodist Church and the School district of Belle Plain. For many years he was secretary-treasurer of the district.

Trimble died in October 1916.
