Memorable Manitobans: William Tkachuk (1930-2014)

Farmer, municipal official.

Born at Gardenton on 17 October 1930, son of Kost Tkachuk and Anne Druzyk, the family moved to Menisino in 1943 and he bought his first farm in 1947. He served as the Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Piney (1976-1977, 1987-1998), trustee and Chairman of the Boundary School Division for 24 years, Chairman of the Vita and District Health Centre, and a member of the Vita and District Health Centre Foundation, Stuartburn-Piney Weed Board, Piney-Pinecreek Border Airport Committee, and Triple R Community Futures Development and Crown Lands Committee. He died at Vita on 1 September 2014 and was buried in the Menisino Cemetery. He was survived by a widow, two daughters, and a son.
