Hockey player.
Born on 29 September 1931, he grew up in Winnipeg and loved sports, with a passion for hockey. He played in the juniors during the 1948-1949 season, and his professional career spanned the 1949-1950 season through the 1959-1960 season. He played most of his career in the minor leagues, including stops with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, the Troy Bruins of the International Hockey League, and the Omaha Knights of the United States Hockey League.
He served as the backup goaltender to Terry Sawchuk of the Detroit Red Wings during the National Hockey League (NHL) 1952 post-season, which saw the Red Wings sweep the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Finals. As such, he had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup for that season. However, he did not have an opportunity to play in the series. Playing for the Troy Bruins, he won the IHL’s James Norris Memorial Trophy for the fewest goals against during the 1955-1956 regular season.
He began his work career as a claims adjuster in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and held various positions with Underwriters Adjustment Bureau in Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Calgary, where he retired as Vice-President, Executive Adjuster. He served as Past President of the Insurance Institute of Manitoba and the Manitoba Insurance Adjusters Association, and Vice-President of the Insurance Institute of Canada. He was also a founding member and Past President of the Winnipeg Reh-Fit Centre. At Bethesda Church he sat on various committees and served as elder for many years.
With his wife Doris he had three children. He died at Winnipeg on 18 September 2009.
