Architect, educator.
Born at Fargo, North Dakota on 3 July 1933, son of Helmer and Ida Thompson, he was educated at Fargo High School, North Dakota State University (Bachelor of Architecture), and University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbanna (Master of Architecture). He worked as an architect at Longon, England and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before turning to teaching Architecture at Kent State University and Queen's University Belfast (1966-1968). He chaired the Department of Architecture at North Dakota State University then established a School of Architecture (and served as Dean) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He came to Winnipeg in 1980 to become Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba, serving until retirement in 1984. He died at Winnipeg on 17 August 2021.
