Born around 1912, he lived at Winnipeg for much of his life and worked as a general contractor, as President and General Manager of the Swanson Construction Company.
He was married twice, first on 9 June 1937 to Jessie Adeline Millar (1910-1966) with whom he had a son Robert William Swanson (1951-1967). The family lived at 456 Cordova Street. His second wife was widow Margaret Nordien (?-1987). He was a member of the Manitoba Roadbuilders Association, WInnipeg Construction Association, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Charleswood Golf Club, Breezy Bend Golf and Country Club, Winnipeg Canoe Club, Wasagaming Golf Club, Vasa Lodge, Khartum Shriners, Masons, Kiwanis Swedish Oldtimers Association, Swedish Canadian Curling Club, and Swedish Canadian Home for Senior Citizens.
He died at the Grace Hospital on 7 January 1988 and was buried in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
