Lawyer, magistrate.
Born at Geraldton, Ontario on 16 July 1941, his childhood was spent at Nipigon until his family moved to Winnipeg in 1953. After graduating from high school, he worked for the Hudson's Bay Company at several northern locations, Baker Lake, Cambridge Bay, and Pukatawagan. He then returned to Winnipeg and received a BA degree from the University of Manitoba. He taught history and science at Elm Creek High School before returning to university to receive a Law degree.
He began a law career at Legal Aid Manitoba, first at Winnipeg and later at Dauphin. He established a private practice at Selkirk and Winnipeg and taught criminal law courses at Red River College. In 1990, he joined the Manitoba Department of Justice as a magistrate until retirement in June 2010. His 2009 decision to invalidate photo radar tickets issued to four drivers in construction zones with no workers present resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of tickets.
He and wife Helen had two daughters. He died at Winnipeg on 6 November 2012.
