Farmer, municipal official.
Born in Ontario on 30 May 1852, son of James Sturgeon (1818-1886) and Ann Jane Finletter (1816-1879), he spent time in Iowa before moving to Manitoba where he owned farm land near Melita and built some prominent buildings in town.

He was Mayor of Melita (1906-1907) before the family moved to Winnipeg. They moved to California in 1913 and lived at Inyokern and Monrovia.
He died at Los Angeles, California on 26 March 1932 and was buried there.
