Memorable Manitobans: Garth Edwin Stouffer (1929-1993)

Publisher.

Born at Holmfield in 1929, son of Edwin John “Ted” Stouffer (1902-2004) and Alexandria Alberta MacKenzie (1903-1975), he joined the staff of the Brandon Sun in the late 1950s and, after working as the reporter and photographer, News Editor (1967-1969), Associate Editor (1969-1977), and Publisher, he resigned in 1977 to take over the Souris Plaindealer, staying there until 1987. On September 1963, he married Geraldine Hanwell at Brandon. He was a founding member, in 1970, of the Assiniboine Historical Society. He died at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on 15 February 1993.
