Jackson Carlisle Scorer

Born at Winnipeg on 8 March 1918, one of two sons of Frederick Scorer and Bonnie Irene McGill, he graduated grade 11 from Gordon Bell High School in 1936 and completed training in stenography at the Angus Business College in Winnipeg (1938). When he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on 8 April 1942, he was working as a traffic clerk for Trans Canada Airlines.
She first enlisted with the 2nd Battalion, Winnipeg Rifles, on 22 July 1940. On 13 August 1940, he transferred to 2/19 Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, and, in 1942, he enlisted in the RCAF. On 28 May 1943, he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer upon completion of Pilot training. He proceeded overseas on 13 September 1943, and was promoted to the rank of Flying Officer on 28 November 1943. On 18 August 1944, he joined 148 (Special Duties) Squadron at Brindisi, Italy.
On 31 March 1945, he was one of four occupants of a jeep coming back from a nearby town at night when the driver swerved to avoid an unlighted horse and cart and collided with a small building, one mile south of the airbase at Brindisi, Italy. He died of his injuries in the No. 133 General Hospital. At the time, he had finished his tour of operations with 148 Squadron and was waiting for posting instructions.
He is buried in the Bari War Cemetery in Italy. In 1994, the Province of Manitoba named Scorer Lake in his honour.
