Edward U. Schrader

Journalist, educator.
Born at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan around 1918, he attended the University of Saskatchewan where, in 1939, he was editor of the campus newspaper, The Sheaf. He graduated with a BA degree in political science and English (1940). He then worked for the British United Press at Montreal, Quebec before moving to Winnipeg where he was a reporter and daily columnist for the Winnipeg Tribune. He served as President of the Winnipeg Press Club (1946).
In 1951, he joined the academic staff of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, becoming in 1955 the head of its graphic arts department that included journalism and printing courses and, in 1965, head of the journalism department. He was Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Society of Professional Journalists. He worked at Ryerson until resigning in May 1971 due to poor health.
He died at his cottage on Georgian Bay on 6 August 1971.
