Sports broadcaster.
Born at Stonewall on 10 August 1926, one of four daughters of Agnes Winnifred Laing (1898-1989) and Joseph Saundry, she was active in sports through her childhood and graduated from Stonewall Collegiate in 1943. She worked successively in banking, hardware distribution, and manufacturing until 1959 when she joined CBC Manitoba. She started as an accountant then, in 1961, became a script assistant, primary covering sports.
She moved to Toronto, Ontario in the late 1960s and her work with CBC Sports involved covering the Olympics, Pan-American Games, and Commonwealth Games. On the death of her father, she returned to Stonewall to care for her mother, spending 15 years commuting to her CBC job in Winnipeg. She retired from CBC in 1985 and was inducted into the CBC Manitoba Hall of Fame (2013). Her story is covered in the book Radio Ladies: Canada's Women on the Air by Peggy Stewart (2011).
She died at Winnipeg on 23 November 2023.
