Memorable Manitobans: William H. “Binx” Remnant (1927-2017)

Civil servant.

Born at Vancouver, British Columbia on 8 September 1927, son of Stanley and Elva Remnant, he was educated at Vancouver and Vernon before working at various locations in British Columbia while employed with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. He later worked at CP Air and the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. He became the first Clerk to the Council of the North West Territories, based in Yellowknife, in 1967. He moved to Winnipeg in 1983 to become Clerk to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, serving until retirement in 1999. He received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) in recognition of his service to the provincial government. He died at Winnipeg on 5 January 2017.
