Memorable Manitobans: Richard Joseph “Rick” Plaisier (1948-2017)

Educator, municipal official.

Born on 1 August 1948, he taught at Rossburn Collegiate (1969-1971) and was the Principal of Virden Junior High School (1979-2000). He served as Mayor of Rossburn (1978), Mayor of Virden (1987-1989) and Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Sifton (2011-2017). In recognition of his community service, he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012). He died at Virden on 8 February 2017 and was buried in the Virden Cemetery.
