Educator.
Born in St. Boniface in 1954, youngest of three children of nurse Hilda Kyle Hammond (1917-2004) and golfer William “Bill” Pidlaski (1918-1997), she attended Springfield School, River East Collegiate, and the University of Winnipeg, graduating from the latter in 1982. She later completed postgraduate courses in language education and taught English as an additional language in Winnipeg and China. She became the director of adult language training programs for the Manitoba Department of Labour and Immigration, becoming a leader in language education in Canada. An adventurous traveller, she crossed Russia on the Trans-Siberian Railway and once tried to sneak into Tibet in the back of a truck. She died in a bus crash near Cusco, Peru on 23 December 2011.
