Memorable Manitobans: Francis Cornwallis “Frank” Pickwell (c1875-1953)Journalist. Born at Plattsville, Ontario around 1875, he trained as a journalist at the New Westminster Daily Columbian and the Regina Standard. He joined the editorial staff of Toronto Saturday Night in eastern Canada and moved to Winnipeg as its Western Editor in 1909. He was best known for his writing on economics and politics. In the 1920s, he was the magazine's special investigator on financial cases. He left the magazine in 1938 to open a business of his own. In 1941, he became editor of Industrial Topics, the publication of the Industrial Development Board of Greater Winnipeg. He retired in 1953. He and wife Jessica Mildred Stevenson (c1877-1959, daughter of William John Stevenson) had no children. He served as President of the Winnipeg Press Club (1936).
