Memorable Manitobans: Carol Philipps (c1965-2009)Journalist. Born in Winnipeg, she grew up in Fort Richmond and received a BA degree from the University of Winnipeg, where she was editor of the Uniter. After university she worked in Vancouver for several years before returning to Winnipeg as the founding editor of Swerve, the city’s first gay and lesbian newspaper. She died on 27 February 2009.
