Memorable Manitobans: Florence Ferris Pearce (?-1981)

Community activist.

Born at Somerset, England, she came to Canada at an early age. On 17 April 1920, she married William Albert Victor “Vic” Pearce (?-1966) at Winnipeg. They had no children. She was a member of the Conservative Club, Rebekahs (Noble Grand, Olive Branch No. 1), Good Neighbour's Club (President), and St. Matthew's Anglican Church. In recognition of her community service, she received a City of Winnipeg Community Service Award (1963) and an honorary doctorate from the University of Winnipeg (1974). She died at the Misericordia Hospital on 29 December 1981 and was buried in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
